Georgia State Route 383
State Route 383 (SR 383) is a state highway in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located within portions of Richmond and Columbia counties. It connects Fort Gordon with Martinez and Evans. The highway is known as Jimmie Dyess Parkway from its southern terminus to an intersection with Park West Drive, one block south of the interchange with Interstate 20 (I-20). It is named after Lieutenant Colonel Aquilla James "Jimmie" Dyess, a United States Marine Corps officer who was a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life" at the head of his troops during World War II in the Battle of Kwajalein, on Roi-Namur, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands on February 2, 1944. Battle Of Kwajalein
The Battle of Kwajalein was fought as part of the Pacific campaign of World War II. It took place from 31 January – 3 February 1944, on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Employing the hard-learned lessons of the Battle of Tarawa, the United States launched a successful twin assault on the main islands of Kwajalein in the south and Roi-Namur in the north. The Japanese defenders put up stiff resistance, although outnumbered and under-prepared. The determined defense of Roi-Namur left only 51 survivors of an original garrison of 3,500. For the US, the battle represented both the next step in its island-hopping march to Japan and a significant morale victory because it was the first time the Americans had penetrated the "outer ring" of the Japanese Pacific sphere. Wheeler Road
Wheeler Road is a major highway in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia, traveling through the southeastern part of Columbia County and the northeastern part of Richmond County. For its entire length, it is an urban corridor of the Augusta metropolitan area. It connects Evans and Martinez with Augusta. Wrightsboro Road is a major road in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia, traveling through the northwestern part of McDuffie County, the extreme northern part of Warren County, the southeastern part of Wilkes County, the southern part of Columbia County, and the northeastern part of Richmond County. It consists of two disconnected segments. Gordon Highway is a major highway in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia, traveling through the southern part of Columbia County and the northeastern part of Richmond County. It is named after Confederate general John Brown Gordon. At its western end, it is a relatively rural highway, but at its eastern end, it is an urban corridor of the Augusta metropolitan area.
